Ki-xocolatl works directly with the farmers of the Tabasco and Chiapas regions.

The trees are the product of grafts from species indigene to the region for thousands of years.

All the plants from which ki-xocolatl selects its cocoa are certified to be organic. Fertilizers used are plant based, using cocoa by-products and a mixture of onions, aromatic herbs and peppers, instead of insecticide.

Ki-xocolatl works with the owners of small ancestral plantations.

The projects are developed over various stages. First, the plants must meet national requirements to be considered organic.

Secondly, a tree of "criollo" cocoa, cultivated for at least six months in our greenhouse and carefully selected, is then planted between two old trees already existing.

After three years, our cocoa reaches the production stage.  The original trees from the initial planting are cut, to allow the farmer to continue making a living from his older plants as he improves the quality of his cocoa in a short period.

Currently thousands of our trees have been replanted, allowing Mexican producers after only three years to obtain exceptional quality cocoa, which they can market for two to eight times their original sales price.
